BRASSICACEAE family brassica rapa
Submitted by: ltward
Cultivation
Chinese cabbage plants should be placed in full sun approximately 16 inches apart. It enjoys a pH between 6.0 and 7.0. Amend the soil so that it has plenty of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K).
Starting from Seed
To start from seed, plant seeds 0.250 inches deep 5 weeks before the last frost. Transplant to larger containers if necessary. Harden off and move to the garden 2 weeks after the last frost.
To print a schedule of when to start seeds indoors, when to move outside, and when to direct sow, go to Browse and select the plants you are interested in. Then go to the Planting Schedule.
Seed Saving
Isolate plants by 660 feet for home use. For total purity isolate by 0.5 miles. Chinese cabbage will cross with other members of the brassicaceae family (broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, and kohlrabi).
