Cultivation
Red orach plants should be placed in full sun approximately 6 inches apart. It enjoys a pH between 5.0 and 6.5.
Starting from Seed
To start from seed, plant seeds 0.500 inches deep 3 weeks before the last frost. Transplant to larger containers if necessary. Harden off and move to the garden 7 days before the last frost.
To print a schedule of when to start seeds indoors, when to move outside, and when to direct sow, go to Browse and select the plants you are interested in. Then go to the Planting Schedule.
Seed Saving
Isolate plants by 5 miles for home use. For total purity isolate by 10 miles. Orach has tiny wind-pollinated flowers. Use bagging techniques for saving seeds.
