Deer in the Yard
I love where I live. I took this photo today from my back porch. These two deer were right across the driveway from me, just munching away. The grass is really starting to green up. It was odd- we had snow last night and today when it melted the grass was *bright* green beneath. It doesn't look bright at all in the photos. Maybe it was just bright compared to what I've been looking at all winter. :)There was a third deer with these two, but it was off by itself so I didn't get a shot of all three of them together.

Do you guys hunt?
My husband has hunted rabbit. He hunted deer but looked at it in the eyes and couldn't shoot it (years ago). His buddies called him "Killer" the rest of the weekend :)
I fired a rifle for the first time in my life a few months ago. Now THERE is a humorous story!
We didn't hunt this fall because we didn't have a freezer yet. We will probably hunt in fall 2006 for deer and turkey. It's odd - the deer are all over the place all year (we frequently see groups of 3-7 from our porch) and then they totally disappear during hunting season. I don't know how they know, or where they go, but they were noticeably absent.
My husband and one of the locals have concocted a fool proof method for huting deer. They are going to sit in lawn chairs in the yard, with a couple of bottles of beer each. It's important that they are bottled, not canned. They will calmly drink the first beer and tell fish stories. Then when they're about half way through the second beer, some deer will walk by, and they'll just throw the empties at the deer and knock them out. It's foolproof!
Old people used to say that the last snow(s) of the season 'fertilized' the grass because it gets gree so suddenly after the late snowfall.
Deer in my yard too. I love 'em, but last night they ate the garden lettuce I was planning to pick today. Grrrrr!
Hey now thats nice. I would fill the freezer up for sure. Only thing make sure you hunt on the backside of the property, or around your garden area. That will help keep the deer away from your crops.
