Salad

We had a really good salad the other night. I went through the garden and grabbed stuff and threw it in a bowl. We ended up with lettuce, swiss chard, parsley, sourgrass (also called wood sorrel), parsley, english peas, broccoli, borage flowers, and chopped green of an onion. It started out as a "What can I grab today?" project and ended up being one of the better green salads I've ever had.

A beautiful masterpiece!
Surely it was dressed with a homemade dressing and not some bottled goo?

When one of us says something akin to this,
..."one of the better green salads I've ever had."
Kelly and I quote my Granny who always followed it with ..."if I do say so myself."

Bill, how nice to see you here! You and Kelly please give one another a hug from me.

What a fitting ending for statements and observations, if I do say so myself :)

Ranch...what are you, 12 years old?
You need my Italian recipe.

Hi Leslie! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I haven't been online much lately. Strained my back again after gardening for several hours last weekend and have been feeling kind of sorry for myself.

Thank you for the compliment! Honestly, I don't try to be funny; the chickens and guineas are just so hysterical. I'm going to try to get a new post in today to update. The salad looks gorgeous and tasty. We have tons of wood sorrel around here. I hope it's okay for the chickens to eat because they're always munching on it!

FC, I exude a youthful vibrance. Thanks for noticing.

Emily, sorry to hear you've been under the weather. Sometimes a good pity party is what's called for.

Leslie, I agree. Fresh is best.

We grew borage for the first time this year. I was undecided on whether I should eat the fuzzy parts or not and have been pulling them off. Looks like you're eating the whole flower...?

Don't tell FC that I put store-bought dressing on my salad too. ;)

Rurality, we eat the fuzzy parts. They feel funny if you eat the flower by itself but the fuzz isn't noticable in a salad. I tried the flowers with and without the fuzzy parts (sepals?) and the flavor is definitely better with them. I bet FC buys his dressing too!
