Melon!

I've never grown melons before. This year I planted some watermelon, some green muskmelon, and some orange muskmelon.
This one is Edisto 47 and it is YUM good.
Fresh picked melons are lots juicier than store bought. You have to get ready and slice near the sink. Have a dish cloth handy.
We ate half of this one and cut the other half into bite sized chunks and froze them on a cookie sheet, then put them in a ZipLock freezer bag for later. They are okay frozen if you eat them while they're still icy cold and not completely thawed.

Juicy fruit...
I have a mango tree, and they, too, are juicy. I once read in a cookbook that the best way to eat one is naked in the bathtub.
I also freeze the fruit (one can only eat so many mangos) and use them for daiquiries (sp?).
There is no better eating than a ripe, sun warmed melon. We had a huge haul of melons this year. The deer(those big rats with hooves) finally found them. I wouldn't be so pissed if they would eat one, but they nibble on five. Anyway the hogs love um.
We've tried muskmelons two years in a row, and have not gotten a single one. But they're my favorite fruit, so we shall persist. Damn it. :}
