Rabbits in the Colony
Blogger has the capability to show videos now. This is a video of the rabbits in the colony last fall, before we put up bird netting.
The buck is a Californian; he has dark ears.
The does are New Zealand Whites; they have white ears.
The kits in this video were probably about 3 weeks old.
The video is about two minutes long.
The original file was a .mpeg, 13.5 MB. I think it's a bit long/large for including in a blog, but it's what I had available.
I'd love feedback on if you could view it easily and quickly or if it took forever to play, etc. I'd like to put videos on here from time to time but not if it makes the blog painful to view.

The video loaded very quick and it played fine. I have a question thou what do you do with all those rabbits?
Thanks Adrianna, I really appreciate the input. This is new to me and I was hoping it would work quickly. We raise rabbits for meat (to eat). We also raise chickens for meat and eggs and we hope to add pigs and dairy goats to our menagerie in the next couple of years.
The video started right up and played fine. I'm on 802.11g wireless, which limits the speed to a theoretical maximum of 54 Mbps. Your dial-up visitors, though, may be sorely vexed. Here're two links I hope will interest you.
House Rabbit Society
Rabbit on the Moon - A Short History of Easter
My father was from West "By God" Virginia and is buried there; what general area are you in there?
Lesle, those were interesting links. I'd seen the first one but not the second, and I've not managed to spend time at either. I look forward to that.
I figured videos would be painful for a dialup user, thanks for the input on that.
We're in central WV, in the Gilmer - Ritchie - Calhoun - Doddridge counties area.
Thank you. I should have included that my father's side of the family is in and around the Paden City area, on the Ohio river, at least those that didn't migrate to Cleveland.
I truly enjoy your blog and photos, and now video; while I'm city now, I'm country at heart.
And please keep us updated on Postal, from time-to-time.
The photo of her head-on is wonderful!
About how big is the pen and how many rabbits are kept therein? Do they ever get out by digging under the fence?
Lesle, (cool name, by the way), Will definitely keep you updated on Postal. She is getting big so fast! She already looks like a miniature cat rather than a little kitten.
Anon, the pen is about 25x25 or 30x30; I've not measured it and it's not a regular shape. It's just what fit well on the hillside.
I keep one buck and two does in there plus whatever kits are growing to butchering age. Right now there are four kits WAY past butchering age, about three medium aged, and about ten or eleven little ones (under six weeks old).
I have had some problems with this setup and I've written about them on the Homesteading Today rabbit forum here and here if you're interested.
Hi, Leslie,
I had no problem at all viewing your video -- and enjoyed it very much. Thanks for sharing!

Lani, thanks for taking a moment to let me know how it went for you. I appreciate it!
Thanks for the info. It's an interesting but sometimes heart-breaking experience.
A little late to the party, but I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your video...esp seeing the kits.
I hope you will make more from time to time...;-)
Late? Nonsense! I'm happy to see your comment any time. Actually, it's the does that will be making more kits, not me.
Oh! You probably meant making more videos! Okay :)
